It's Not Your Battle

Bishop Clarence Williams • General
If you are not careful, the storms of life will cause you to take your eyes off God, the source of your existence; the one who can bring you through. (But) This is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's.'" 2 Chronicles 20:15

When facing difficult situations, it's easy to become distracted because of the things going on around you.  Distractions can be so powerful that you forget the God who brought you thus far.  You get so focused on the situation instead of remembering the covenant God made with His people.  When King Jehoshaphat was told that a vast army was planning to come against him, the Scriptures read in 2 Chronicles 20:3-4, "Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.  The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord…"

If you are not careful, the storms of life will cause you to take your eyes off God, the source of your existence; the one who can bring you through.  So instead of remembering the covenant your God made with you, you concentrate on the things you're going through.  But you must put your eyes on God like King Jehoshaphat did.  God will not break His Covenant, nor will He alter the words that have come out of His mouth. (Psalms 89:34) Even in times when your situations seem insurmountable, look to God to bring you through.  King Jehoshaphat knew that they were unable to defeat this enemy alone, and he prayed and recalled the works of the Lord, then he ended by saying, "…we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us.  We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You." (2 Chronicles 20:12) God's response to the king's faith through the man of God was, "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem!  This is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army.  For the battle is not yours, but God's.'" 2 Chronicles 20:15

The lives of thousands was at stake, but Jehoshaphat set his eyes toward God instead of focusing on his situation.  When you focus on your situation, you are bound to sinking back into doubt and defeat.  But keep your eyes fixed on God, and like the king and inhabitants of Judah, begin to worship Him amid your battles.  Through worship, God can shift the atmosphere in your favor, and change or cancel what was meant to destroy you.  I don't know your circumstances, but there are some battles you don't have to fight.  As a matter of fact, all our battles belong to the Lord.  So, if it is not your battle to fight, why are you still struggling, fighting and wrestling?  It's not your battle!  God has already covenanted with you that He is the One who goes before you.  He will be with you, He will not leave you or forsake you; and so don't fear or be dismayed.  (Deuteronomy 31:8) The word then came according to 2 Chronicles 20:17, "You will not have to fight this battle.  Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you… Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.  Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.'"

You may right now be hurting in your body, going through difficult times in your marriage, or have received a negative report from the doctor, but no matter what you're facing, don't take your eyes off the King.  Stop saying you're tired of fighting; it's not your fight.  And if the battle is not yours, then what is yours…is VICTORY.  So, embrace the victory because He has made you an overcomer.  Sometimes the struggle is simply you trusting God to fight for you.  Doubt is a struggle and stronghold; you must learn to trust God and master your thoughts and feelings.  As a matter of fact, during your battle you should be worshiping God, and praising Him for the victory, even before seeing the manifestation of what He is doing.  After receiving the word from God, the king and all the people bowed down and worshipped Him for the victory as if they had already won the battle.  Sometimes your praise and worship are the most powerful weapons in warfare and will be tested in your trials.  Can you praise Him when you are hurting or going through things?  Do you allow the joy of the Lord to be your strength when you are burdened with pain and suffering?  Go to war in praise and worship.  When you do, you are telling God "I trust You; it's in Your hands."  Every weapon is designed for you to overcome every force of darkness as you release your faith to trust God.  God set an ambush against their enemy when Jehoshaphat and the people began to worship Him in their situation; and every one of their enemies fell that day.  As a matter of fact, it took them three days to gather the spoil because there was great wealth and substance following their victory.

Whatever you go through, know that there is a reward at the end of the battle, and the result will always be gain, promotion and increase.  So, set and keep your focus on God, and begin to worship Him for the victory.  Remember, it's not your battle, it belongs to God.
